It is not only a great platform for freelancers, but the clients can also get their work done quickly. It is one of the largest freelancing platforms.  Freelancers have the option to choose between a part-time or full-time job.

A newbie may feel this website is a bit difficult to start with. It is not true. It may be due to the vast options available to freelancers, and they just become confused about what to choose. No need to worry; you will get everything necessary in this tutorial to get started on this great platform. I will not only guide you on how to work here, but you will also be able to earn real money.

Steps to Create a Profile

1. Determine, Know Yourself and Commit

Determination and hard work are the keys to success. Both of these become very important in freelancing, as you will have to face new challenges each day. Don’t lose heart at any stage of your career. Try to find out about yourself before doing anything regarding freelancing. Find out the answers to questions such as what I am good at? Will I be able to manage it along with my current job?

Answer those questions, trust your skills, and keep your morale high. Everything can be done with proper planning, management of time, willpower, and commitment.

2. Sign Up

It is free to sign up on However, there are membership upgrades that are there to increase your chances of getting more jobs. Upgrading membership increases the number of bids you can have per month. Some projects require you to have certain skills. You will be given the option to add more skills to an upgrade to get more jobs. I will show you everything here, so don’t go away and stay tuned.

Type this URL into the browser “” and hit enter. At the upper right portion of the webpage, there is a button “sign up.” Click on this button to make a new account on the Freelancer website. You also have a chance to sign up via Facebook. Write your email address in the first field. I recommend that you use an email that is legal as all future notifications will be sent to this email. In other words, you are linking this email address to your Freelancer account.

3. Fill In All the Required Fields

Next, fill out the required fields specified on the page. In the first field, you are required to submit a valid email address. Remember that this should be a valid email since all communications and payment notifications will be sent to your email address. Apart from the email address, provide a username and password.

After providing the necessary details, on the “I am looking to,” check the box that says “Work.” Then click the “Create an account” button. Note that you will be directed to a page where you will be asked to choose from the four membership types on Since you are a new user and you do not have a sufficient balance yet, it is advisable to choose Free Membership. Take note that you will only be given ten allowable bids if your membership type is free. Later on, you can already change and upgrade your membership type if you meet all the requirements.

4. Add Payment Method

The next step will be on adding a verified payment method. If you have a credit card, PayPal account, or a Skrill account, you might add it to your profile. You will be asked to fill out the required fields to verify your payment method. However, if you do not have any of the specified payment methods, you may choose to skip the step.

If you choose to skip the steps, you will be directed to your account dashboard. The account setup meter is also there under the name and image box. Note that your account is not yet complete. First, you need to verify your email address. Check your email and look for the verification message sent by Click on the link provided. After this, you will be directed to your account dashboard again.

5. Update Your Profile

You will need to update your profile after email verification. Provide your full details at this stage. You need to provide your full name, mobile number, and your address. A mobile number is necessary for account verification. Note that you also need to upload your photo—this is essential in completing your profile.

6. Set Your Hourly Rate

The hourly rate should also be set along with editing your profile. Clients hire freelancers based on their services, as well as the rate. Add your personal experience and overall profile summary here. Professional experience should also be added. Click on the resume button in the lower-left corner of your profile. Add details about your experience, certification, education, and publication.

7. Enter Your Skills

Next, you have to edit one of the critical parts of your profile i.e., your skills. There are many skill categories available, and each category has the various skills you can choose from. See the screenshot below for your help and reference. Be sure to click on all the skills that you have for different clients around the world and browse through your profile. If they find yourself fit for their needs, they may contact you soon.

8. Take Exams

Once you have finished editing your skills, you will be asked to take some examinations. This will increase your likelihood of getting hired. There are two free examinations: Employer Orientation and Freelancer Orientation. You can take these exams. If you already have available funds, you can already take the other available examinations for just $5.

With these ten essentials steps, you can already create a 100% complete account on You may encounter other steps and processes along the way, such as adding a verified payment method. However, if you are just starting your career, you may skip these processes until you have already met all the specified requirements for the process.

But for now, you can already start bidding for projects that suit your skills. Do not bid for projects beyond your capacity since it is crucial for you, as a freelancer, to provide the best service for your client. This will help you gain good feedback; in return, this would increase your chances of getting hired for more projects.
